CORE: THREE CORE VALUES OF CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY
$50 billion. Americans spend more than $50 billion on dieting annually. In essence, Americans are spending money, lots of money, in an effort to solve the problem of overconsumption. This is because, when things go wrong, when life gets hard, we turn to consumption to find refuge. We console ourselves with food, drink, and material goods only to find short-term relief. And when the respite ends, we consume more. What if there was a better way to live? A way of life that involved contributing rather than consuming. What would our lives, our communities, our relationships become if we began contributing more than we consume?
