When Jesus tells his followers that they are to be “salt of the earth” (Matthew 5:13), he offers us a powerful metaphor.  In ancient times, salt was not just used to enhance the flavor of foods like meat, but also to preserve it from decay.  When Jesus said we are to be the salt of the earth, he meant we are supposed to live in a way that improves the quality of life for the people around us.  We believe that the greatest example of this is Jesus himself, who “did not come to be served, but to serve” (Matthew 20:28b).  This is why we are committed to helping people serve like Jesus in the following ways.
